There’s not much information available online about gate regulations, but as far as I know, a gate is part of a fence, so the same rules apply.
This is a list of known issues that I have personally come upon, and you should always check with your council, because the laws may be different from state to state.
A gate should never swing over the property line.
A gate is part of the fence, and its height should be equal to that of the fence.
If your gate has a bow top in the centre, and its height is larger than that of the fence then it seems to be ok as long as the “shoulders” of the gate curve down to the exact height of the fence.
A sliding gate which opens and closes must be kept behind the fence or wall.
